Panakam is a refreshing, sacred drink made with jaggery, water, and spices. It is especially prepared during Sri Rama Navami and other festivals as Naivedyam (offering) and as a natural body coolant.
Ingredients
- Jaggery (grated or powdered) – ½ cup
- Water – 2 to 2½ cups
- Dry ginger powder (sonth / sunti) – ½ tsp
- Black pepper powder – ¼ tsp
- Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
- Tulsi leaves – a few (optional)
Preparation Method
- Dissolve jaggery in water. Stir well until fully melted.
- Add dry ginger powder, pepper powder, and cardamom powder.
- Mix thoroughly. Add tulsi leaves if using.
- Let it rest for 5–10 minutes for flavors to infuse.
- Serve at room temperature or slightly chilled.
